Sophia Can't Surf. YET.

Add caption

I'm Sophia, I can't surf - YET - so holding a smile, a peace sign and an ocean in my heart I'll tell you some things while I learn. Here are some words:
Buddhist, Vegan, Reggae, Tea, Yoga, Poetry

These words have significance as do;

Saltwater, Muffin top, Mountains and Climate change.

 This is the very first post, of a brand new blog so you could say its a little bit special. To mark such an auspicious occasion lets quote Fern Gully (1992).

'The truth doesn't always make friends but it influences- you're not bad for a Hominid...' [Batty Koda the fruit bat to Zak the shrunken human].

Heeding Batty Koda's wise words, so shall I write without smokescreens- even though it makes me cringe to be so honest with you, dear reader. For me, looking back at old entries will be like watching daytime T.V. movies, a toe curling affair filled with corny dialogue and actors you've never heard of. But I endeavor to write from the heart anyway, as nothing worth reading was ever written without passion!

Today I am filled with merriment and trepidation. YAY its Christmas!

...And in two weeks time I embark on a 3 month internship to Ethiopia working for VSO. Ordinarily I'd be chomping at the bit for such an opportunity but alas there is context. Typically because I am about to leave I have not only found someone who makes me want to skip through meadows singing, I've also landed on my feet working for Friends of the Earth. I'm surrounded by hippies all day (my idea of bliss) and get to tell the world about environmental issues. So its with a heavy heart I drag myself away from the UK - Funny as I never anticipated those words leaving my mouth before.

Here's some more context.
This year I lived in Senegal teaching Yoga at a surf camp.I went because I had a heavy heart and surfing reached me when little else could. I returned with a tan and renewed optimism - I still can't surf but the hunger is there.

This blog is going to document some stuff; my attempts to surf, my experiences in Ethiopia and everything else in between. The Blog title is from a quote about Marge Calhoun and her daughters. Marge Calhoun was somewhat bodacious, not only because she was the first Women's World champion (at Makaha International Surf event), but because she also accomplished this being a middle aged suburban mother in the 1950's.

So real women do have curves and surf boards.
Here's to you Marge. PEACE X.
